The Pet Coalition of Ellis County works to reduce shelter overcrowding and prevent pet abandonment through advocacy, education, and affordable preventative care. Our goal is simple: to help keep pets healthy, safe, and with the families who love them.
We are not a rescue, shelter, or veterinary clinic, and we do not provide veterinary services or medical advice. Instead, we focus on preventing pets from reaching crisis in the first place by supporting both animals and the people who care for them.
Our work includes:
• Advocating for policies and community awareness that improve life for companion animals across Ellis County.
• Educating pet owners about keeping animals healthy and safely in their homes.
• Providing access to affordable preventative resources such as low-cost vaccine and microchip clinics, spay/neuter options through local veterinary partners, and heartworm prevention when funding allows.
• Supporting pets and families through programs like our pet food pantry and “This Stray Can Stay,” which helps finders care for stray animals while working toward safe reunification or other solutions.
Because nonprofit resources are limited, we focus on solutions that help the greatest number of pets possible. At times, this means prioritizing essential preventative care rather than full “gold standard” treatment so we can extend lifesaving support to more animals across Ellis County.
At its heart, the Pet Coalition of Ellis County is about neighbors helping neighbors help animals — bringing together volunteers, pet owners, and local welfare partners to create meaningful, lasting change for pets and the people who love them.
